A McMorrow Veterans Initiative


Elements of Curriculum 

  • 22-Day, residential* program administered over the course of four months
  • Participants receive a certificate of completion in ‘Veteran Transitional Leadership' from the USC Marshall School of Business
  • General topics and resources covered in the curriculum include:
    • Practical transition knowledge
    • Career development guidance
      • Custom guidance will be provided to each participant
      • Up to 12, small-scale networking events will be organized to connect participants with potential mentors in the civilian workforce
    • Rediscovery/Psychological Preparation
    • Exposure to USC educational opportunities
    • Family Support Resources
      • Financial and legal guidance


  • Orientation (2 days)
    • Topics: Introductions & welcome, campus tour, YouSchool kick-off, financial planning, welcome luncheon
  • Module 1: Foundations for Change (10 days)
    • Topics: Transitioned families panel, lifestyle transformation, career management & networking workshops, performance science, entrepreneurship, employment law, public speaking, establishing values and trust (off-site family retreat)
  • Module 2: Recognizing and Seizing Opportunity (6 days)
    • Topics: Corporate structure, contextual leadership, global risk & liability, marketing, the science of diversity & inclusion, social enterprises, influence without authority, communication strategy 
  • Module 3: Commitment to Action (4 days)
    • Topics: legal & financial clinics, negotiation & persuasion, YouSchool storytelling, needs & leads closing ceremony

Additional Information

  • Lodging, meals, and admin expenses will be covered. Travel and dinner on evenings without networking events are not covered.
  • Childcare will be provided for participating families 
  • Programming available to high school and college age children

*Residential classes on the USC campus are dependent on COVID-19 local and state health guidelines.
