Lorien received a Ph.D. in accounting from the University of North Carolina and a B.S. in Economics from Brigham Young University. She conducts research at the intersection of accounting and emerging technologies, including analysis of written financial communication using linguistics-based research methodologies. She also has an interest in the health care sector. Lorien has presented her research at many conferences in her field and has published in the Journal of Accounting and Economics, the Journal of Accounting Research, and Management Science. Her work has been cited in Bloomberg, CFO Magazine, and the Wall Street Journal.
